Eludril mouthwash contains two active ingredients, chlorhexidine gluconate and chlorbutanol hemihydrate. What is it used for? Maintaining oral hygiene and preventing plaque build-up on the teeth, particularly in situations where toothbrushing is difficult to carry out (eg following oral surgery or in people with disabilities).
Eludril mouthwash contains two active ingredients, chlorhexidine gluconate and chlorbutanol hemihydrate.
Chlorhexidine is an antiseptic and disinfectant agent, which is active against various bacteria, viruses, bacterial spores and fungi. It kills the micro-organisms associated with various mouth and throat infections. These include the Candida albicans fungi that causes thrush infection in the mouth, and bacteria that may infect mouth ulcers.
Chlorhexidine has also been shown to prevent the formation and build up of plaque on teeth, which helps prevent inflammation of the gums (gingivitis).
Chlorbutanol is also an antiseptic agent that kills bacteria and fungi. The combination of these two agents used as a mouthwash also provides a mechanical cleaning action in the mouth.
Chlorhexidine is incompatible with certain ingredients of conventional toothpastes. For this reason, after using toothpaste to brush your teeth or dentures, you should wait for at least 30 minutes or rinse your mouth or dentures with water before you use this mouthwash. Alternatively use the mouthwash at a different time of day to when you brush your teeth.
To use as a mouthwash or gargle, 10-15ml of Eludril mouthwash should be put into the measuring cup provided. Dilute with lukewarm water to the upper line on the cup and use to rinse the mouth or gargle. This can be repeated two or three times a day.
To use as a disinfectant for dentures, Eludril mouthwash should be prepared as a dilution of one part mouthwash to three parts water. Clean the dentures as usual then leave them to soak in the mouthwash solution for one hour.
